Shadehopper Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Shadehopper LLC ("Shadehopper," "we," "us") operates the Shadehopper
app and website at shadehopper.com. This policy explains what data the
Shadehopper mobile app and website collect, how we use it, and who we
share it with.
2. What we collect

Location data, including background location.
With your permission, Shadehopper collects your device's precise and
approximate location to compute real-time shadows, UV index, air
quality, and shade-optimized walking routes, and to provide
turn-by-turn walking navigation. If you grant the "Allow all the
time" (background) location permission, Shadehopper also collects
location in the background — including when the app is closed
or your screen is locked — so that navigation can keep
running and alert you out loud when you go off your route while your
phone is locked. Background location is used only during an active
navigation session. Location data is not sold, and is not stored on
our servers beyond the duration of your session. You can disable
background location at any time in your device's system settings;
foreground (screen-on) navigation continues to work without it.

Account information. Your email address and display
name when you create an account or sign in (email and password, or
Google sign-in). Authentication is handled through Google Firebase.

Usage data. Pages visited, features used, and
session duration, collected via Firebase Analytics to help us
understand and improve the app.

Push notification token. If you enable
notifications, a device messaging token (via Firebase Cloud
Messaging) so we can deliver notifications you've opted into.

Skin tone. An optional Fitzpatrick skin-tone setting
used to personalize vitamin D timing and UV warnings. It is stored
locally on your device and is not transmitted to third parties.

Optional profile details. Information you choose to
provide — such as body weight for workout calorie estimates — stored
privately in association with your account to personalize the app.
3. What we do not do (currently)

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with
advertising or marketing partners. Shadehopper does not include
third-party advertising.

Payment processing, if offered in the future, will be handled by a
third-party payment processor. Shadehopper does not store payment
card information directly.
4. Third-party services
We use the following service providers, who process data on our behalf:
- Firebase (Google) — authentication, database, analytics, and push notifications (Cloud Messaging)
- Mapbox — map rendering
- OpenStreetMap / Overpass API — building and street data
- OpenWeatherMap — UV and weather data
- Strava (optional) — if you connect your account, we access your activity routes with your permission
5. Data retention
Account data is retained until you delete your account. You may request
deletion by emailing
contact@shadehopper.com
or by following the steps at
shadehopper.com/delete-account.html.
Location data used for live navigation is not retained on our servers
after your session ends.
6. Children
Shadehopper is not directed at children under 13, and we do not
knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
7. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of
material changes via the app or by email.
